Lüthi looking to bounce back

On the eve of the Polini Australian Grand Prix, several riders made a visit to the Phillip Island Wildlife Park, home to a herd of kangaroos and a host of others local animals such as dingoes, Tasmanian devils, wombats and koalas.

125cc title contender Thomas Lüthi gave his weekend a jump-start by joining MotoGP stars Max Biaggi and Toni Elias for the trip. The Swiss youngster will be hoping the visit can help him bounce back from his first non-podium finish in four rounds last time out at Qatar which left him trailing Mika Kallio by two points in the 125cc World Championship ahead of what promises to be another nail-biting weekend for the minor category.

"I had a bad race here last year, in fact after my poor season I think it was the lowest point of my career," said Lüthi, who like Kallio has yet to score a single career point at Phillip Island. "But look how far I have come since then! I am confident going into the race because I have had a chance to rest the shoulder injury I sustained in Japan last month."
