Porto sets early pace at Phillip Island

Argentine rider Sebastian Porto topped the timesheets in the first 250cc free practice session of the Polini Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island, with a best lap clocked at 1'34.700.

The Aprilia Aspar rider, who won at this circuit last season, completed the session ahead of factory colleague Alex de Angelis and Fortuna Honda riders Jorge Lorenzo and Hector Barbera.

Title hopeful and local hero Casey Stoner was fifth fastest, ahead of Andrea Dovizioso and Randy de Puniet. Italian veteran Roberto Locatelli posted the eighth quickest time while defending Champion Dani Pedrosa was only tenth fastest behind fellow Spaniard and best privateer Alex Debon.
