Stoner pleased with early pace

Second fastest on the first day of the Polini Australian Grand Prix, Casey Stoner was pleased with his early pace as he goes gunning for home glory this weekend. The Australian will be cheered on by home crowds as he bids to reduce Dani Pedrosa's Championship lead and made a solid start to his weekend's work.

"I am very happy with the afternoon session," said the Carrera Sunglasses – LCR rider. "This morning we had a few problems and we could not get a good feeling with the bike, but this afternoon we made a lot of changes and it gradually got better and better all the way through the session until the end when we put on a new tyre and I did a good lap time."

"I am very happy with the times we did, only Porto was right behind me and it was impossible to get the pole position, but other than this I am very happy with the team because they did a great job and I want to thank everybody."
