Biaggi, Porto and Lüthi set warm-up pace

The warm-up session allowed the riders to make final adjustments ahead of this afternoon's Polini Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island. The session proved useful for Repsol Honda's Max Biaggi who topped the timesheets with a best lap of 1'30.211, just 0.141s outside his qualifying time. The Roman, who will start from sixth on the grid, was followed by Ducati Marlboro's Carlos Checa and pole setter Nicky Hayden, while Valentino Rossi and Sete Gibernau completed the top 5.

Last year's Australian 250cc GP winner Sebas Porto set the pace in the quarter litre class with a fastest lap clocked at 1'33.658. Andrea Dovizioso was second at the end of the session, ahead of Alex de Angelis and Jorge Lorenzo. Aussie Casey Stoner, who will start from pole position this afternoon, was fifth fastest ahead of Dani Pedrosa, who could retain his title if he manages to win the race and Stoner doesn't manage to score more than a single point.

In the 125cc class, pole holder Thomas Lüthi posted the best time of the twenty-minute session, ahead of Aprilia riders Mattia Pasini and Sergio Gadea. Japanese rookie Tomy Koyama was fourth fastest, ahead of Championship leader Mika Kallio.
