Kallio secures provisional pole in Turkey

Red Bull KTM's Flying Finn Mika Kallio clinched provisional pole position on Friday afternoon at the Istanbul Park circuit. This season's best qualifier to date, with eight pole positions to his credit, relegated Spaniard Hector Faubel from top spot on his last flying lap with a best lap set of 2'04.740.

Championship leader Thomas Lüthi, who took his fourth win of the season last week at Phillip Island to regain the series lead, was knocked down from third to fifth in the late stages of the session as Japanese charger Tomy Koyama and Kallio's team-mate Gabor Talmacsi moved up to third and fourth respectively.

Fabrizio Lai posted the sixth fastest time on his Kopron Racing World Honda, while Aprilia riders Marco Simoncelli and Sergio Gadea took the last two spots on the second row of the provisional grid. Joan Olive and Mattia Pasini completed the top 10.
