Di Meglio delighted with debut win

Mike di Meglio secured his first Grand Prix in fine style at Istanbul in one of the most hotly-contested 125 races of the season. The young Frenchman swapped the leading positions throughout the race in a six-strong leading pack which included title contenders Thomas Lüthi and Mika Kallio, as well as Italian hotshot Mattia Pasini, Japanese rookie Tomy Koyama and KTM's Gabor Talmacsi.

"It was a funny and fair race, but very difficult for all the leading group," said di Meglio, who will join the new FFM Honda GP 125 team in 2006. "I started very well, my bike was very fast and I had the same speed as Luthi and Kallio - the most important thing was to keep the contact with them. I rode a clever race."

"I had only hesitated twice, the second time came at the last corner where I almost lost the lead, but I managed to finish first despite Pasini being in my slipstream. I'm very, very happy and I thank my team for the good job they have done during our two years together - I'm more mature now."
