Kallio´s title hopes evaporate with last-lap crash

Mika Kallio looked good for a podium finish, if not for a win, at Istanbul only for a crash on the last lap to put an end not only to his race, but almost certainly his championship hopes also. With only one race left, and 25 points on offer, Kallio now trails championship leader Thomas Lüthi by 23 points which means that, in order to take the title, he would have to win at Valencia and hope the Swiss rider finishes no higher than 14th.

I dont feel very good, because of this crash it is now very difficult for me in the championship - I will need a lot of luck in the final race at Valencia, commented a disheartened Kallio.

I lost the front-end trying pass to Lüthi and Di Meglio, perhaps I was slightly on the wrong line and I want to look at the data to see exactly what happened. It was necessary to push hard from the beginning and it was great to fight in a group like that but, I had to be careful because I had to think of the championship points against Lüthi.

Despite Kallios crash, KTM continues to lead the constructors championship with a lead of 13 points over Honda.
