Porto to take part in Touring Car event

Before travelling to Spain for the final round of the MotoGP World Championship in Valencia next weekend, Sebastian Porto will be a guest competitor in the '200 kms of Buenos Aires' - a touring car event that takes place this Sunday in Argentina's capital city.

Porto will team up with youngster Carlos Okulovich driving one of the three Chevrolet Astras that General Motors Argentina are running in the TC 2000. Porto has already had the chance to get behind the wheel of a Chevrolet back in September when he completed a few laps in the car of 2004 Argentine touring car champion Christian Ledesma. That was as part of a warm-up event ahead of the TC 2000 round held in Porto's home city of Rafaela, but this will be the first time the 250cc star has taken part in an official touring car race.

"I'm delighted with this invitation to take part, it's a new experience," Porto stated. "Although I know what it's like to take part in a touring car race, it will be a huge challenge to do it against the best drivers in my country. It will be an opportunity to enjoy to the full and something I might consider taking up when my bike racing career is over, although that is still someway off."

For the event, Chevrolet have invited not only Porto, but other famous names from world motorsport including Alain Menu, a competitor in the World Touring Car Championship, and Christian Fittipaldi who races in the Brazilian Stock Car championship.
