Gibernau looking to sign off in style

Sete Gibernau admits he is looking forward to racing in front of his home fans this week at Valencia in the last round of the season. The Spaniard had endured a disappointing 2005 campaign and has not managed a single win as yet. Back on the track where he took his first premier class triumph in 2001, the Movistar Honda rider is determined to make the most of this final chance to taste victory for the first time since last year's Qatari GP.

"At last the end of the season has arrived. It has been a hard year for us because we started out with hopes and objectives that have not been realised," conceded Gibernau. "Valencia is our final chance to end the season with a good result and I will give everything from my side to make sure it happens. It won't be through lack of effort but there is no use feeling sorry for ourselves because we can't change anything in the past. I hope that with the help of the fans I can have a good weekend and finish it with the result we have been looking for all year."

Gibernau lies down in sixth position in the championship, but his strong performances in qualifying throughout the year make him overwhelming favourite for the BMW Award, which rewards the best qualifier of 2005. He currently holds a 1.956s lead over World Champion Valentino Rossi.
