Valencia 2004: Barberá ends the year with home victory

Hector Barberá started the party early for the Spanish fans with home victory in the opening race of the Gran Premio de la Comunitat Valenciana, securing the runner-up spot in the championship.

Barberá dominated proceedings in the 125cc class, taking the lead from Andrea Dovizioso on lap four before a rare mistake from the World Champion saw him run into the gravel and return to the track in twelfth place. Dovizioso mounted a strong comeback to take second place but was powerless to catch Barberá.

Alvaro Bautista held off the challenge of his fellow Spaniards Pablo Nieto and Sergio Gadea to clinch the final podium spot in third, but fifth place for Gadea represented his best result in Grand Prix racing at the end of his rookie season. Roberto Locatelli scored sixth place on his final appearance riding a 125cc machine.
