Pasini takes provisional pole

Mattia Pasini clinched provisional pole position on Friday afternoon at the Ricardo Tormo circuit, with a fastest lap clocked in 1'40.469. The Totti Top Sport – NGS rider, who is supported this weekend by Valencia FC players Emiliano Moretti and Marco di Vaio, knocked Thomas Lüthi from the top of the time sheet a couple of times and eventually completed the session with a 0.065s gap over KTM's Gabor Talmacsi.

Title hopeful Lüthi was the fastest out of the boxes before being initially demoted by Pasini. The Swiss youngster fought back moving up in first again with less than 15 minutes to go, but a strong charge from Pasini in the late stages of the session saw the Italian securing the top spot of the provisional grid.

Gabor Talmacsi and Julian Simon qualified ahead of the Elit GP – Honda rider in the dying minutes, while their Red Bull KTM team-mate Mika Kallio took fifth behind Lüthi.

The Finn was joined on the second row of the provisional grid by Spaniard Sergio Gadea and Istanbul's debut winner Mike di Meglio, with Tomy Koyama taking eighth. The top ten was completed by Marco Simoncelli and Hector Faubel.

No less than five riders crashed during this session: Andrea Iannone, Lukas Pesek, Jordi Carchano, Daniel Saez and Sascha Hommel.
