Riders enjoy traditional fiesta at Cheste

Several riders attended a traditional Spanish party on Thursday evening at Cheste, near Valencia, which hosts the final round of the world championship season this weekend. Team Suzuki star John Hopkins was joined by local riders Hectór Barberá, Héctor Faubel, Nico Terol and Joan Olive as they were invited to attend by the mayor of Cheste, Raimundo Tarín.

The riders were welcomed by fans at the town hall's main square and talked about their expectations for this weekend's race. Local favourite Barberá said: "Considering my current form, and the changes we have made to the bike lately, I'm determined to fight for victory on Sunday afternoon, with the support of all my fans."

After their short speech, the riders were treated by the mayor to a paella, the local speciality, before attending the celebration of 'las fallas' - a traditional ceremony in which 'ninots', huge figures build from wood, papier-mâché and wax, are displayed in the streets before being burnt, while fireworks provided a thrilling backdrop to the proceedings.
