Hayden's boots get special paint job

Nicky Hayden will wear a very special pair of Alpinestars boots in this weekend's Gran Premio de la Comunitat Valenciana. For the last race of the 2005 season, Hayden's boots have been designed and hand painted by British artist Jill Bradley, who has previously been commissioned by Alpinestars to design and paint a Hawaiian motif on F1 World Champion Fernando Alonso's driving shoes.

"I'm a huge motorsport fan, I've been painting for Formula One drivers and usually follow various disciplines, from F1 to Rally and MotoGP," explained Bradley, while painting the Kentucky Kid's boots in the paddock on Friday afternoon.

"Doing the F1 paintings, I became involved with Alpinestars to paint Fernando Alonso's shoes. As I love MotoGP, I just jumped at the chance to do something similar with Nicky Hayden. I watch all the GPs on TV, but this is my first time in the MotoGP paddock, so I'm very excited. Nicky was happy with the design we came up with, we thought that it was something which looked visually quite interesting. I think it might get damaged fairly quickly in the race, but the paint is quite sturdy, so hopefully it should stay on for a while!"

Repsol Honda rider Hayden, who took his first MotoGP win earlier this season at Laguna Seca, will be fighting for the runner-up spot in the championship against Marco Melandri in this weekend's GP at Valencia.
