Pedrosa storms to final 250cc pole

Dani Pedrosa appears determined to leave the quarter litre class in style after taking pole position for tomorrow´s race with a stunning performance at Valencia. The Movistar Honda rider first demoted provisional pole setter Casey Stoner and later fought back in the last minutes of the session when Hector Barbera and Alex de Angelis moved ahead of him. With a fastest lap of 1´35.298, Pedrosa was the third Spanish rider of the day to clinch pole position with a new lap record after Sete Gibernau and Sergio Gadea had both done so in the MotoGP and 125cc classes respectively.

Hector Barbera produced his best qualifying result of his rookie year in the 250cc class, securing his first front row start with the second best time. Behind the two Honda riders, San Marinos Alex de Angelis qualified in third on his Aprilia, while fourth fastest was Barbera´s team-mate Jorge Lorenzo.

Andrea Dovizioso, who´s already assured of the ´Rookie of the Year´ title, took fifth on the grid ahead of Hiroshi Aoyama. Australian rider Casey Stoner crashed in the early stages of the session and failed to improve on his provisional pole time set on Friday afternoon. He will start from seventh, while Yuki Takahashi will complete the second row.
