Tamada celebrates his birthday at Valencia

Japanese ace Makoto Tamada celebrated his 29th birthday on Friday evening at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Cheste, which hosts this weekend's Gran Premio betandwin.com de la Comunitat Valenciana.

The Konica Minolta Honda team had prepared a surprise party for their sole rider in the MotoGP World Championship after a fruitful first day of practice at the Spanish venue. After posting the ninth fastest time of the day, Tamada was able to relax and sample various wines with his crew and enjoy a customary birthday cake.

"I have a good feeling with the bike and I can really push in the corners - the situation is pretty different from what we have experienced so many times this year," said Tamada, who took pole position at Valencia last year.

"We were able to improve constantly and that is a good sign. I think we can refine the settings of my RCV so I can get a good grid position. I'm confident, because we are not that far from the fastest riders."
