Pedrosa signs off with dominant win

250cc World Champion Dani Pedrosa, who will join the MotoGP ranks next term, scored his eighth win of the season in the last round of the Championship, repeating his 2004 success in front of his home crowd at Valencia.

The Gran Premio de la Comunitat Valenciana was an all-Spanish affair with Hector Barbera, Jorge Lorenzo and Pedrosa serving up an entertaining battle for the lead in the first half of the race. However, Pedrosa was able to pull away after the halfway point as Lorenzo finished in a lonely second.

After a strong start Barbera dropped back and eventually took fifth, while a gritty performance from Casey Stoner saw the Australian take third ahead of Alex de Angelis.

Former 125cc World Champion Andrea Dovizioso finished the season as Rookie of the Year, taking third position in the Championship. The Italian had a difficult race at Valencia having gone off the track on the first lap, but he rejoined and made a steady comeback to cross the line in ninth position.

Honda secured the 250cc constructors title for the second consecutive year with a total of 349 points, just 10 more than Aprilia.
