Porto takes a rain-check at Valencia test

Sebastián Porto's switch to Honda machinery has been postponed because of the neck injury the Argentine rider suffered last weekend which denied him the opportunity to race at Valencia with the Aprilia Aspar team.

Porto suffered neck pain on Saturday and missed the second qualifying practice session to undergo a medical test in Valencia, which led to his decision to not race on Sunday.

The Argentine has explained to that his debut with the 250cc Honda team, managed by Alberto Puig, will now have to wait a few weeks following a further check-up in Barcelona on Monday.

"At least I feel a bit more at ease now that I know it's nothing serious," explained Porto. "I was feeling sick and dizzy, so they did various tests. Dr Mir, from the Dexeus hospital, recommended one of his colleagues who confirmed that I had a problem with my neck and told me that I just needed some rest. That should be enough to feel better within a few days."

"The off-season will be pretty long and it's not worth taking risks at this time of the year. I expect to ride again before the end of the year anyway," he added.

Porto, who will fly back home to Argentina later this week, added that he has still to put pen to paper with the Honda team, but expects the deal to go through in the very near future. "I haven't signed anything so far. We were supposed to conclude the talks last weekend, but it wasn't possible because of the problems I had. Anyway, I know that I can count on Repsol's backing and I think the deal should be confirmed in a couple of days."
