Sekiguchi renews Campetella contract

Campetella Racing have announced that Japanese rider Taro Sekiguchi will be staying with the team for the 2006 season. Sekiguchi, who will now continue aboard the team's 250 Aprilia, expressed his delight at having agreed a new deal with the Italian outfit.

"I am very happy to continue with this team, I felt very happy this year and it is without doubt the best private team," he stated. "I had a hard year because of the crash I had at the start of the season, but my team gave me great support all the way through and really helped me both professionally and personally which helped me regain my confidence on the bike."

"I am sure that in 2006 we can achieve good results in every race and I will try to win the privateer title," Sekiguchi continued. The Japanese rider missed virtually all of the first half of last season after fracturing his leg in a crash at the official test in Jerez on the eve of the championship. He returned to action at Donington Park but did not manage to get back in the points until the final rounds of the season and eventually finished in 21st place in the standing with a total of 13 points.

However, the Italian outfit are backing Sekiguchi to bounce back and show his true potential in 2006. "Taro is a good rider who had a very unfortunate season," stated Campetella Racing's technical director Eros Braconi. "We believe in him and are convinced he can recover, get good results and win the best privateer trophy in 2006."
