De Puniet takes a liking to the Ninja

Randy De Puniet will be one of the new faces in the MotoGP next season, and this week in Valencia the Frenchman had his first chance to climb aboard the bike he will be racing – the Ninja ZX-RR.

The 24-year-old has left behind the 250cc class and opened a new chapter in his career with the Kawasaki Racing team. De Puniet has spoken to motogp.com about his first impressions of his new bike and team following this week's test in Valencia.

"I like the bike and I am confident of getting good results on this machine," he stated. "The weight is different, it weighs about 50 kilos more, and the braking is very different as well." However, he admitted that the adverse weather conditions at the Ricardo Tormo circuit had not let him make the progress he wanted. "I suppose that the next test in Sepang will be better and we'll be able to get more laps under our belts."

De Puniet did manage to make some adjustments in Cheste despite the conditions, adapting the height of the bike and his position on it. After the two-day test he headed to the United Kingdom for a medical check-up that Kawasaki had demanded ahead of the 2006 campaign.
