Debon lands testing role with Aprilia

Spaniard Alex Debon is set to take on the role of test rider for Aprilia, working on the Italian firm's 250cc project. Debon attended the test held at Valencia last week to put his name to a two-year deal with the Noale-based manufacturer and he explained to how pleased he was with this latest opportunity in his career.

"I believe it's an important step forward in my career, because I will be deeply involved in the development process of the 250cc Aprilia. Now, the doors of a factory are opening to me," said Debon.

"I think I can prove my worth as a factory rider. I will have the opportunity to ride in a few races, between four or six, it still has to be decided. It's a gamble for the future, I'm sure I will have some interesting options for 2007. For example, Aprilia could come back to the MotoGP class - that would be a great scenario."

"I have had five seasons in the World Championship as a privateer, it has been pretty good but I never had the machinery that has allowed me to fight at the front. As I will also be the first choice substitute for the official Aprilia riders, I could get a chance to show my potential."
