Checa confident ahead of Sepang test with Honda Pons

Carlos Checa will fly to Malaysia with the Honda Pons team next week for the last testing session of the winter, at Sepang, where several MotoGP teams will conclude their 2005 schedule. The team managed by former 250cc World Champion Sito Pons still has to secure the budget required to take part in the 2006 MotoGP World Championship, but Checa explained to motogp.com that he was confident about the future of the Spanish-based Honda outfit.

"My options with Sito's team are pretty clear - now we just need to get the funds to race next year. If we can get a sponsor, I will race with them next year, and I'm sure things will work out, I have no doubt about the fact that they will be able to find a solution," said Checa, who already tested with the team alongside Aussie youngster Casey Stoner last week in Valencia.

"After seven years, I'm back with a team I'm fond of, unfortunately, Antonio Cobas is no longer with us, but I'm working again with (chief mechanic) Santi Mulero, Ramón Forcada and many others, it's a really great team. I have a very special relationship with Mulero, someone I've always been very close to. I'm pleased with this new project, because if it hadn't been this year, I wouldn't have had another opportunity to work with them again."

"We have a good bike, but for me it's all about the people you work with, and this group of people is very strong. In Valencia, I had a really good feeling and we'll carry on like this in Malaysia."
