Q&A with Marco Simoncelli

Q&A with Marco Simoncelli

Marco Simoncelli was one of the seven riders who took victory in the 125cc class this year, with a repeat win of his debut victory at Jerez' season opener. Eventually fifth overall in the Championship, he's now preparing to join the 250cc field in 2006 as he completed his first test with the 250cc Aprilia last week in Valencia. Looking back on the past season, are you happy with your performances in the latter part of year?
Well, the last two races weren't really good as I only took 5th and 6th, while I was able to make it onto the podium in the two previous races. But I must say I'm quite happy with them anyway, I mean the races were good as I managed to come back starting from behind. I really enjoyed riding in those last two races.

And right after the last GP in Valencia, you were back on track a few days later...
Yeah, I rode the 250cc Aprilia for the first time. I couldn't lap as much as I wanted to, because of the poor weather. I just had half a day of testing, but the first impression was pretty good, working with Rossano Brazzi (one of the Aprilia factory historic chief engineer).

How do you feel about making the step from 125cc to 250cc?
Pretty good! I just have to get used to the weight of the bike, it requires more arm strength. I'll work on that, but apart from that it's all good. But anyway, the upcoming test at Jerez next week and later at Valencia in December should allow me to get a better idea.

With this change of class, you're set for a busy winter! Any plans for winter holidays?
Well not really! I just won't have enough to time to make a proper break. I think I'll spend my spare time relaxing at home, before start training again.
