Melandri: "I have to keep working!"

Marco Melandri has arrived in Malaysia with the Fortuna Honda team as he prepares to take part in the forthcoming three-day test at the Sepang circuit next week. However, before landing in Malaysia, the Italian made a stop-off in Japan to attend a promotional event for Honda. There he revealed he was suffering from a fever, but insists he should be fully fit for the final testing session of the year.

Before heading to Asia, Melandri was one of the star attractions at the Milan Motorcycle Exhibition - an appearance which demonstrated his ever-growing popularity amongst motorcycle fans.

"It was great to participate in the Milan show this year," said Melandri. "The people were lovely and congratulated me for my season, telling me to continue that way next year. I was really pleased to hear that, it proves that the public want to see things change a bit. I can't promise anything, but I will work hard to give my best."

"The show was a nice way to end the season, but now it's only a nice memory and what's important is what I do now. I have to keep working towards 2006."

As well as attending the show in Milan, Melandri also had some time to relax before flying to Japan, but didn't stray too far from motorcycling.

"I enjoyed a few days off. I love motocross and I spent my short break riding my great 250cc Honda. I'm getting faster and faster and the truth is that I'd love to race in an off-road event, but I guess I can't afford to take that kind of risk."

Having joined the Honda camp this year, Melandri secured second overall behind Valentino Rossi after taking consecutive wins at Istanbul and Valencia, his first wins in the premier class.
