Testing continues at Sepang

The MotoGP teams continued their testing programme on Tuesday at Sepang and enjoyed improved conditions which allowed the riders to take to the track early on in the morning.

World Champion Valentino Rossi resumed his work on the new Yamaha YZR-M1, spending the whole day on the 2006 machine. The Italian posted the fastest time of the day, ahead of the new Fortuna Honda pairing formed by Marco Melandri and Toni Elias.

Kawasaki also launched their 2006 prototype at Sepang. Shinya Nakano was pleased with the new package which features a new chassis and a new engine which delivers more power and better handling due to its improved power delivery. Indeed, initial reports on the new bike were so positive that the Japanese rider focused all of his efforts on the machine, while team-mate Randy de Puniet continued to work on the 2005 Ninja ZX-RR.

Honda Pons' Casey Stoner and Carlos Checa were also riding the teams' 2005 bikes, while the Yamaha Tech 3 outfit have a new package for this three-day test: a Dunlop-shod 2005 YZR M1. Team manager Hervé Poncharal praised the work of Briton James Ellison, underlining his excellent feedback, even though they still have to assess the potential of the Dunlop tyres compared to Michelin and Bridgestone's products. Ellison was the only rider to complete a race simulation on this second day.

At Suzuki, John Hopkins continued to work on the 2006 GSV-R prototype which, like the Kawasaki prototype, features a new chassis and a new engine, while Chris Vermeulen was still learning the Sepang track ahead of possibly testing the new bike on Wednesday.
