Rossi and Melandri clash in Japan

This week, On-Board Special offers you footage from one of the most spectacular clashes of the 2005 MotoGP World Championship, which involved Valentino Rossi and Marco Melandri at Motegi.

Valentino Rossi could have secured the title at the Japanese Grand Prix, but after making a sensational start from eleventh on the grid and passing seven riders, he came together with Marco Melandri on lap 13 as they pitched into the notorious turn ten and collided into the gravel.

In the crash Melandri had a footpeg plunge into his foot and heel muscle ; the week after, having arrived in Malaysia in a wheelchair with 35 stitches in the wound and a badly swollen ankle, he battled through to pain barrier to race at Sepang, where Rossi eventually secured his fifth consecutive title in the premier class.

You can now see again this incident from Rossi's on-board camera.
