Dovizioso: "I want to win races!"

Dovizioso: "I want to win races!"

After winning the 125cc World Championship in 2004, Andrea Dovizioso wasted no time in making an impression in the quarter-litre class last season, taking four podium finishes in his six first appearances on 250cc machinery.

However, a dip in form by mid-season meant he was unable to challenge the likes of Dani Pedrosa and Casey Stoner for the title. But just a month after completing his 2005 campaign – taking third overall and winning the ‘Rookie of the Year' award - the 19-year-old from Rimini has already started his preparations for 2006 and tested at the Jerez circuit last week for two days.

"We probably made a mistake last season by not working too much on my position on the bike and that's what we focused on during this test," explained the Italian. "We weren't trying to get great times, I just clocked plenty of laps as the conditions were pretty good, and I think we have found a solution."

Unhappy with his 2005 season, the Team Scot Honda rider is determined to prove his ability on a 250cc machine and start winning races again.

"For sure I want to win races next year," he continued. "I'm not happy with the way things went last year. After mid-season I wasn't even fighting for the podium positions. I wasn't happy about my results because I believe I should have done much better, so basically we'll have to improve on every track, on everything!"

"We ran into many different problems last year, but it's already an old story - I think that, thanks to the guys who have recently joined the team, we'll manage to address the issues we had in the past and make a major step forward in 2006."
