Talmacsi's controversial late dash in Qatar

The 125 Qatari GP turned out to be one of the most controversial races of the season with Gabor Talmacsi snatching victory from Red Bull KTM team-mate Mika Kallio just metres from the flag.

Kallio had led the race from the start and was stalked by Talmacsi until the last lap with the two riders on course to complete an impressive 1-2 for KTM having built a ten-second advantage over the rest of the field. Talmacsi, seemingly under team orders, had not attempted to pass his team-mate, that was until they entered the final straight when he slipstreamed the Finn before passing him to take a surprise win.

At the time Kallio was involved in an intense battle for the riders' title and lost five precious points. The result became even harder to take when he eventually finished the season second overall, just five points adrift of World Champion Thomas Luthi. While Kallio was obviously hugely disappointed to see his own team-mate steal an important victory, Talmacsi argued that he thought they were on the penultimate lap. Having put himself in a very awkward position within the Red Bull KTM camp, the Hungarian eventually chose to move to Honda for 2006 season.
