Injury-hit Valencia test draws to a close

The three-day 125 and 250 test held at Valencia drew to a close on Friday having produced some very positive results in terms of times and progress, but also some negatives with serious injuries to both Jorge Lorenzo and Marco Simoncelli.

With the Italian having fractured his collarbone on the first day of testing, Lorenzo suffered an identical injury on Friday after falling at the Champi Herreros corner. The Spaniard broke his left collarbone, the same one he broke at the Catalan Grand Prix back in June. Lorenzo was taken to Barcelona for further treatment after being seen by medical staff at the track.

Following a scan, Doctor Xavier Mir - of the Dexeus Medical Centre - has confirmed that the Honda rider will have to undergo more surgery on the collarbone with the operation scheduled for Saturday morning.

"Jorge has a slight fracture just under the metal plate we inserted at the start of the year and we will have to operate to replace it. The old injury has completely healed, though, and has nothing to do with this new one," stated Mir. "After the operation we will assess the injury and the recuperation time he will need."

Another rider who is recovering from a similar injury, Martin Cardenas, decided not to go out on to the track on Friday after suffering pain from the collarbone he fractured in a Supermotard injury back in Colombia a couple of weeks ago. Cardenas was replaced by Victor Carrasco at the Honda BQR team.
