Catalunya GP: Practice

Every week the Re-Live section will give you the opportunity to enjoy highlights of the 17 Grands Prix of the 2005 MotoGP World Championship season. On Saturdays you'll find all the best action from the free practice and qualifying sessions, and on Sundays the best moments from the races. This week, motogp.com looks back on the Catalunya GP.

In qualifying, Sete Gibernau smashed the circuit pole position record, with a best lap set in 1'42.337. The Movistar Honda rider posted his best time with 15 minutes to go and only Marco Melandri seemed able to threaten him.

Melandri had been the fastest rider during the free practice sessions, but failed to beat his team-mate for only 0.053s. Valentino Rossi completed the first row of the grid, with the third fastest time, 0.386s adrift from Gibernau.

Max Biaggi didn't have enough time to complete his last qualifying run and had to content himself with fourth on the grid, alongside his Repsol Honda team-mate Nicky Hayden, while Loris Capirossi secured the sixth spot.
