Dutch GP: Practice

Every week the Re-Live section will give you the opportunity to enjoy highlights of the 17 Grands Prix of the 2005 MotoGP World Championship season. On Saturdays you'll find all the best action from the free practice and qualifying sessions, and on Sundays the best moments from the races. This week, looks back on the Dutch GP at Assen.

Valentino Rossi stole the show in qualifying with a superb time that allowed him to snatch pole position from Movistar Honda riders Sete Gibernau and Marco Melandri. Melandri was also involved in an unsavoury incident with compatriot Max Biaggi in the closing moments of the session when some unsporting behaviour from the ‘Roman Emperor' saw him punished by race direction.

Jorge Lorenzo, who two weeks earlier had fractured his collarbone at the Catalunya GP, overcame his injury problems to take pole in the 250cc class, holding off the challenges of Sebas Porto, Dani Pedrosa and Casey Stoner.

Mika Kallio gave another demonstration of the power of the KTM machine in the 125s by taking another pole. The Finn was at the head of a front row comprised of team-mate Gabor Talmasci and Italians Mattia Pasini and Marco Simoncelli.
