Battaini adds to MotoGP reshuffle.

Franco Battaini will be another absentee from the 2006 MotoGP World Championship, after confirming his participation in the next series of World Superbikes.

The experienced Italian rider, 33 years old, who was a regular in 250cc and made his debut in the MotoGP class in 2005 with the Blata WCM team, has enrolled with Team Bertocchi in order to get on the saddle of a Kawasaki ZX10R.

His departure joins that of other riders such as Troy Bayliss, Rubén Xaus, Roberto Rolfo and Alex Barros, who also make the switch to Superbikes. His departure will contribute to an important rejuvenation of the MotoGP grid, which will see the debut of talented youngsters such as Casey Stoner, Randy de Puniet and Chris Vermeulen and, undoubtably, the expected jump in category by the triple world champion Dani Pedrosa.
