Dieter Stappert leads the Red Bull KTM Junior Team

The experienced Dieter Stappert will undertake the task of directing one of the important newcomers to the 125cc grid in 2006, the Red Bull Junior Team, which this season will run two debuting riders; Stefan Bradl and Michael Ranseder.

The objective of this project is promoting new talents, and for this first outing the team has placed their trust in the hands of the two highest placed finishers in the German ADAC 125cc Championship. Bradl and Ranseder also competed in various Grands Prix at a World Championship level as wild cards last year.

Stappert has extensive experience in GP teams. He started out as a manager in 1987, and has worked with many racewinners, such as Reinhold Roth and Helmut Bradl in the eighties. More recently he was a key figure in the success of Ralf Waldmann and Jeremy McWilliams. Last season he headed the Aprilia Germany team.

MotoGP had the chance to speak exclusively with the Austrian about the new project with which he will attempt to make an impact in the 125cc World Championship.

What does it mean to you to be a part of the KTM team, an Austrian factory?

Being Austrian, the truth is that it´s something really special. I´d equate it to returning home after 39 years away. Its not often that one gets offered the chance to start again at 63 years old, and I´m both happy and grateful for this opportunity. I can´t wait to start this new and exciting project.

What are the main differences between the Junior Team and the official outfit?

The structure is practically the same. Each Junior rider will have two bikes and four technicians at their disposal: two mechanics, a data technician and an assistant.

Will the two teams collaborate or will all work be done independently?

The two Red Bull KTM teams in the 125cc category will have their own identities, but from the practice plans to the fine tuning there will be a lot of cooperation and collective work.

What goals does the team have for 2006?

Both Stefan and Michael earned points in the World Championship in their respective wild card appearances last season. The objective for the Red Bull KTM Junior riders will be to finish in the points as many times as possible. However, we must keep in mind that the majority of the circuits are uncharted territory for both riders, and in those cases it will be necessary to collaborate closely with the "Senior" team.
