Espargaró signs for Honda BQR

Catalán Aleix Espargaró will be a new addition to Raúl Romero´s Honda BQR team in 2006´s 125cc class. After a year spent in the Seedorf Racing team, the former Spanish champion will change management but continue with the same bike-a Honda- that this season will arrive with factory configuration.

Espargaró will ride a bike very similar to that which carried Thomas Lüthi to the 2005 world title. The Honda BQR team will also have strong representation in the 250cc category, headed by Colombian Martín Cárdenas alongside Spaniard Arturo Tizón, the two previous Spanish Supersport champions.

MotoGP.com spoke today with Espargaró about joining his new team and his hopes for 2006.

"During this time we have worked to put together a good team and a good bike, and I am very satisfied with this agreement with BQR, which has a structure I find to be reliable and interesting. I aim to work my utmost. I will be able to depend on a great group of people, highly skilled technicians and good parts, which makes me feel very confident. It is a team with 250cc as its base, and that makes me very optimistic about this project"

"We had various options open to us, but we opted for Honda. For me it´s a guarantee, a trustworthy brand, the same bike that I rode in 2005 and another important factor for the coming season"

"I still don´t know the team or the possibilities that we will have, but the intention is to be able to finish as well as possible and hold our heads up high, hoping to be fighting for first place in every race that we can"

Espargaró will be in Jerez next Monday, alongside many other 125cc and 250cc teams, to take part in his first practices with his new colleagues.
