Davies gets big chance in 250cc

Eighteen-year-old Chaz Davies at last gets the opportunity to ride a semi-factory Aprilia machine in the 250cc World Championship this year.

In a deal announced yesterday, Herefordshire-based Davies will join the established Italian Campetella team to compete in the 16 round 250cc World Championship. He will be joined by Japanese rider Taro Sekiguchi in the Campetella team who also announced the Swiss company Ticino Hosting as their new title sponsor.

Davies, who is one of the top privateer riders in the 250cc class, starts his fifth season of grand prix racing on the most competitive machinery he's ever ridden. The teenager enthused about getting the chance to test at the end of this month.

"At last I have the chance to prove myself on some equal machinery and show what I'm capable of," revealed Davies, whose best Grand Prix result was a fifth place in the 2004 Valencia Grand Prix. "Last year was tough but I stuck at it and it's great to join such an established team as Campetella. Hopefully the bikes will be available in a couple of weeks and we can get testing."
