Great Britain GP: Races

This weekend the Re-Live section travels to Donington Park, a circuit which played host to one of the most exciting and spectacular races of the season, with the presence of dark skies and heavy rain turning the race into a battle for the riders not just between each other but against the tricky British Grand Prix track.

Valentino Rossi completed his "magnificent seven" of Donington victories in 2005. The Yamaha rider gave another masterclass, in spite of the elements, to achieve what was coincidentally his seventh win of the season. This added a further cushion to his lead atop the leader board. Kenny Roberts Jr (Suzuki Racing) earned his first podium of 2005, whilst veteran Alex Barros (Camel Honda) was able to mark his 250th Grand Prix with a third place finish. Falls and retirements were frequent throughout the race.

The 250cc meeting was sure to be one of the most passionate and frenetic of the season. In a thriller full of excitement right up to the last lap, with changes in position and brave riders pushing themselves to the limit in search of victory, Randy de Puniet earned his first victory of the season. The Parisian imposed himself in a tight finish over Anthony West. The Australian, who finished second, achieved an extraordinary result for KTM in their 250cc debut, whilst third position went to Casey Stoner.

In 125cc, Julián Simón won the first race of his career, in front of Frenchman Mike di Meglio, in a race hampered by frequent interruptions due to rain and which was split into two parts. Italian Fabrizio Lai completed the podium.
