The MotoGP teams go against each other in Sepang

The 2006 MotoGP season starts for real on Monday at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia, where the majority of the premier class teams will gather over three days. The Honda teams (with the exception of Konica Minolta) Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Ducati will go head to head for the first time this preseason.

After the two month winter break, the teams and their riders will line up at the Sepang Test with their batteries fully recharged and excited at the prospect of returning to work. These practice sessions signal the start of an intense work schedule that in the next three months will prepare the teams for March´s season opener in Jerez.

Although some of the teams have already taken to the Malaysian track for work in 2005´s final tests, it will be tomorrow that the teams start unveiling their new additions and the prototypes with which they will aim for World Championship victory.

It will be the first outing for the factory Yamaha team of Valentino Rossi and Colin Edwards after the announcement of their new sponsorship deal with Camel. The other attractions of the tests will of course include the sight of Sete Gibernau locking horns with Rossi as Ducati´s new rider.

It will also be interesting to watch the development of 2006´s premier class rookies on their new 990cc machines. Dani Pedrosa, Chris Vermeulen and Randy de Puniet will all be on show, in addition to Casey Stoner, who debuts on the RC211V of Lucio Cecchinello.

Kawasaki Racing will send Naoki Matsudo to the circuit in addition to their official riders De Puniet and Shinya Nakano. Matsudo recently became the new development rider for the Japanese team. Team Roberts will also step out this preseason with Kenny Roberts Jr, after confirming that Honda will provide their 2006 bikes. will keep you comprehensively informed of all the happenings at 2006´s first Test.
