German GP: Races

The Re-Live section this week goes back to the German GP, the race which marked the halfway point of the season before the spring break. Today we provide you with the great spectacle of the last season´s three Sachsenring races.

In MotoGP the race was marked by John Hopkins´ spectacular accident. The Suzuki rider highsided his bike, and the fall brought about a suspension of the race. The main excitement of the Grand Prix´s second half was concentrated in the battle between Sete Gibernau, Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden at the head of the field. The Spaniard maintained the lead until the final lap, but a braking error in the first turn allowed Rossi to slip through and take his ninth victory of 2005.

Dani Pedrosa racked up his fifth triumph of the season after an extraordinary occurrence. The World Championship leader suffered a collision with Jorge Lorenzo that dislodged his exhaust, whilst the Mallorcian fell to the ground and had to retire. With a stunning display after remounting, Pedrosa overcame his rivals and finished first ahead of Alex de Angelis and Hiroshi Aoyama.

The 125cc meeting was also affected by a fall, in this instance Manuel Poggiali, which saw the race terminated six laps from the end. Mika Kallio clinched the victory after dominating the best part of the race. Thomas Luthi finished second, whilst Marco Simoncelli completed the podium.
