Pre-season testing continues down under

The majority of teams which took part in last week's three-day test in Malaysia headed to Australia over the past couple of days, in preparation for the resumption of winter testing at the Phillip Island circuit on Tuesday.

The Australian venue will gather together all the teams present at Sepang except Yamaha and Suzuki, who opted to test in Qatar later this week. The Australian test will see the Konica Minolta Honda team taking to the track for their first test of 2006.

The Ducati Marlboro team will try to confirm and consolidate their early dominating form at the Australian venue, as Sete Gibernau and Loris Capirossi posted the best times during the previous test riding the new Desmosedici GP06. Elsewhere, this test will give MotoGP rookies Dani Pedrosa, Casey Stoner and Randy de Puniet, an occasion to confirm the good impression produced in Malaysia and continue their apprenticeship in the premier class.

The Phillip Island circuit, with its fast sweeping corners and impressive topographical changes, should provide interesting material for back-to-back comparisons with the data gathered at Sepang, where the teams will return next week before heading back to Europe. will bring you daily coverage of the Phillip Island test.
