Konica Minolta look to the future with optimism

After the first stage of preseason testing for the Konica Minolta Honda Team in Phillip Island, JiR's Managing Director Gianluca Montiron shared his thoughts with motogp.com

Which are your feelings after the first tests of the season?

It´s true that first impressions count. I saw Makoto Tamada was satisfied after his first contact with the new 2006 RC211V. Engine fluidity and easy riding are the characteristics that have impressed our rider. I must say that Honda, once again, have produced a technological gem of a bike. Now it will be the riders' duty to make full use of its potential.

The Championship sees lots of new riders arriving this year…..

It is a really important thing for the Championship when one evaluates the 2006 season. For sure, the riders will know how best to interpret the premier class, but I think that experience will be a decisive factor; for this reason Konica Minolta Honda are counting on Tamada.

How is JiR developing the MotoGP project?

I would say that we have come quite a long way since 2002. Times have really changed in comparison to a few years ago. MotoGP has achieved great success which requires restructuring in order to adapt oneself to the present climate.

So it´s a well articulated program of work ?

This is the main difference which distinguishes us from the rest of the organizations. The fundamental thing is of course passion for our sport. Our team offers highly specialised service in the technical and managerial sectors.

In 2003, Bridgestone´s first experience of the 4 stroke category, they chose to develop tyres with Honda and our group; in 2004, the Honda RC211V with Bridgestone tyres driven by Makoto Tamada twice reached the highest step of the podium in Rio and Motegi. Thanks to these results, the following year, for the first time in motorcycle history, we were able to bring in a Japanese technological multinational sponsor in Konica Minolta . This company is now our title sponsor.

What do you expect from 2006?

From a sporting point of view, to give our rider the best opportunity to excel. Socially speaking, I will do my best to bring young people to our sport through the minor categories. There is a lot of work to be done.
