Today saw the start of three days testing in Portugal for a large number of the 125cc and 250cc teams. For many of them the test at the Estoril Circuit will be their final opportunity to fine tune both performance and bike before the Official Catalunya Test on February 28th.

A day without too many incidents, the test took place under rather uncharacteristic weather conditions. Clouds and moderate temperatures were present as expected, but there was not so much as a breeze on the track and a distinct lack of rain.

The big news from the test was Héctor Barberá's crash, an incident which saw him discontinue the session and head back to the hotel in order to face tomorrow's second day fully recovered. Aprilia test rider Alex Debón's crash saw him injure his hand, postponing his work for the day. He will however also continue with the second day of testing. ,

The fastest time of the day belonged to Aspar's Alex de Angelis, one of the big title contenders for 2006. A lap of 1'42.2 putting him at the head of the standings.

In 125cc, Julian Simon surprisingly went faster than Red Bull KTM teammate Mika Kallio, last year's runner up.

Times for Jorgé Lorenzo were unavailable, but will be viewable on motogp.com on Thursday morning.
