Poggiali crashes, De Angelis fastest on Estoril final day

Red Bull KTM Team rider Manuel Poggiali suffered a spectacular crash this afternoon at the final day of testing in Estoril. The incident brought the Test to a premature close due to its serious nature.

The Italian was flung from his KTM and was momentarily unconscious during his immediate transportation to the circuit's medical centre. However in order to proceed with more thorough examinations on the rider's condition Poggiali was moved to the Hospital São Francisco Xavier in Lisbon, where he underwent a scan.

Marco Simoncelli was another rider to crash, but without serious consequences. The weather at the circuit saw clouds and strong winds, but no downpours.

Apart from the aforementioned incidents, the session passed relatively smoothly for most teams. The fastest time of the day went to Álex de Angelis in 250cc.

It was the Humangest Honda riders who came closest to De Angelis, Andrea Dovizioso and Yuki Takahashi both clocking laps of 1'42.1.

Fortuna Aprilia were also inseperable, with Hector Barberá and Jorge Lorenzo riding round in 1'42.5 from their respective 57 and 65 laps.

In 125cc, Julián Simón again came in at the head of the ltime sheets, ahead of teammate and 2005 runner up Mika Kallio. The Finn earned the third fastest lap, ahead of Derbi rider Lucas Pesak.

Next week sees a number of the teams present at the Portuguese track heading to Valencia, as the preseason rolls on with another two days of testing.
