Cold day affects Valencia Test

Today a number of 250cc and 125cc teams undertook the first of two days testing at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Cheste, near Valencia. It was to be a disrupted occasion, with riders having to compete against the cold throughout the test.

Under these conditions, the riders present at the Spanish circuit decided to take to the track in short bursts rather than go round for extended periods.

The riders for both the official Honda Teams- Repsol 250 and Humangest- spent most of the session in the box awaiting an improvement in conditions. Former 125cc World Champion Arnaud Vincent used the day to debut with the Honda RS250 he will ride in 2006 for the Molenaar Racing team.

Of the 125cc riders, reigning World Champion Thomas Lüthi was the most active, not so much in terms of riding, but more for participation in an advert for his new sponsor, Caffe Latte.

After his promotional turn, the Swiss gave an exclusive interview to motogp.com, in which he expressed his optimism for 2006.

"I'm heading into the new season with moral at a high. I think we are in a great position to defend the title, but I know it won't be an easy task with two or three riders in contention. Every year it gets tougher"

Friday will see the final day of tests for the 250 and 125cc teams before they head north to Montmeló, scene of the Official Catalunya Test.
