Gadea fastest on MotoGP Official Test first day

Sergio Gadea (Master MVA Aspar) and Julián Simón (Red Bull KTM) headed the table on the first day at the Montmeló Circuit, where the 125cc teams who will face the upcoming season gathered for the first Official Test of 2006.

Valencian Gadea was fastest on the board almost from start to finish with a lap of 1'51.365, whilst Simón repeated his impressive performance from Estoril at the last test.

With none of the rainy and windy conditions which have affected so many testing sessions this preseason, the riders and teams were able to assess their progress and focus on things a little more within their power. However a descent in temperatures as the day drew to a close made some teams take the decision to finish slightly early.

The day played host to British teenager Bradley Smith's first ride alongside his 125cc World Championship peers, Repsol Honda's MotoGP Academy graduate also displaying his new livery at the Test.

Out of four crashes to occur throughout the session, the most notable was that of Fabrizio Lai, who was taken to the Clinica Medica but with no serious repercussions.

The 125cc teams have another session in which to test tomorrow morning from 10am, before handing the baton to the 250cc teams at 2pm.
