Spanish riders start strong in Catalunya

With a third of the inaugral day of the MotoGP Official Test already gone, it is the Spanish riders who occupy the majority of places at the top of the table. The fastest time achieved so far has been that of Sergio Gadea, with a lap of 1'51.365. Álvaro Bautista's time of 1'52 puts him in second, ahead of reigning World Champion Thomas Lüthi and runner-up Mika Kallio. These four are followed by the quartet of Pablo Nieto, Ángel Rodríguez, Julián Simón and Héctor Faubel.

In spite of it being a rather cold day at the Spanish circuit, the sun and clear skies are enabling an uninterrupted session. In a notable incident from the morning, Holland's Joey Litjens crashed without suffering physical damage.

The teams are using the lunchtime hours of this first day to clock up as many kilometres as they can at the Montmeló Circuit. In addition to the 125cc teams who continue until 6pm, there have been various sightings of 250cc riders at the track, starting preparations in the box for their joining the action tomorrow.
