Aprilia dominate whilst Smrz impresses in Jerez

With the 125cc teams having completed their preseason testing yesterday, today saw the start of two days of 250cc tests. All eyes were on the Jerez Circuit, scene of the upcoming season-commencing Grand Prix, as the quarter litre teams started to put the finishing touches to their 2006 prototypes.

After a delayed start whilst waiting for fog to clear, the teams finally took to the track at 11am. At midday Aprilia riders Alex de Angelis, Jorge Lorenzo and Héctor Barberá were the only riders to have broken the 1'45 second barrier. The top two switched places with the only two times under 1'44 confirming Aprilia's impressive showing.

The big news from the 250cc Test was the continued good form of Czech rider Jakub Smrz. With many votes in the "surprise of Catalunya" survey, the young man from AB Cardion rode the fourth fastest time of the day, showing that the previous good form at Montmeló was far from a fluke.

With temperatures hovering around 20 degrees for much of the day, the teams were able to start their two days of testing with a trouble-free session. The only crashes, without any serious consequences, were those of Arturo Tizol and Jules Cluzel.
