Official Aprilia riders start to go for distance

The 250cc category has seen its teams hard at work this Wednesday, with the first of two testing sessions starting in Jerez. The day started somewhat late with the riders not taking to the track until 11am local time. Thick fog present in the early hours at the Andalucian circuit has now cleared and the sun is again shining brightly in the blue sky.

Alex de Angelis had clocked the best time as of 1pm, a lap of 1'44.536 putting him close to the fastest lap of last year's Grand Prix. The rider from San Marino was ahead of Fortuna Aprilia riders Jorge Lorenzo and Héctor Barberá, who also broke the 1.45 second barrier.

Yuki Takahashi, has been the fastest Honda rider and lies in fourth, albeit more than a second and a half off De Angelis' time. Marco Simoncelli, Roberto Locatelli, Hiroshi Aoyama, Alex Debón –returning from the hand injury which caused his missing the Official Test in Catalunya- Sebas Porto and Taro Sekiguchi complete the provisional top ten.

The session, which up until now has been free from crashes, will continue until 6pm local time.
