Alessio Palumbo faces his first season in the world championship next season, and is already working hard to gain experience in the highly competitive 250cc category.

The Italian rider will be a debutante with the Matteoni Racing team, heading straight to the quarter litre class excited but realistic about what lies ahead.

"It's completely new for me. I was in 125cc one minute and now I'm here! Right now I'm starting to get to know how to ride this bike, but I have to progress further in order to perform well," said Palumbo. "I know that I'm not going to be fighting for the top places and that I have to keep going step-by-step."

"It really is a big difference between cylinder categories, but I'm satisfied with both my team and the mechanics, which is what will allow me to progress. We have been able to solve some problems encountered during the winter, and I'm happy about that," added the Italian.

The final preseason tests have given the youngster a chance to see the quality present in the 250cc field which he will become a part of this season.

"I have realised how difficult the category is. There's double the power to contend with and it'll be a hard year. If I manage to earn a point then it would be like a Grand Prix victory for me!"
