Jorge Lorenzo continues preseason form on Jerez day 2

Jorge Lorenzo will be very confident heading into the 2006 season, having today finished the final 250cc Test as the fastest rider. With a time of 1'42.873, Lorenzo was only five tenths off Dani Pedrosa's pole-winning lap for last year's race. The Majorcan rider has also established himself as a strong challenger for his countryman's vacant crown.

"I'm really happy, as these two days have been the best tests of my career, but most importantly we are in good form and prepared. What we have achieved here gives us a lot of confidence, and I think that in the race here we can do something great," said a delighted Lorenzo.

Second placed rider Alex de Angelis was unable to break the 1'43 barrier, and was followed by Héctor Barberá in the standings. Yuki Takahashi was something of an exception for Honda, as he earned a fourth place in the midst of a battalion of Aprilia bikes.

Alex Debón's bad luck continued after a crash at the Circuito de Jerez. The Spaniard, coming back from a finger injury suffered in Estoril, had to be taken to hospital after suffering damage to his back and a small fracture. It is not thought to have an effect on his taking part in the first race of the season on March 26th.

Manuel Poggiali, Alessio Palumbo, Martín Cardenas and Jordi Carchano all joined Debón on the list of crashers, although without serious consequences.

Today's cold weather and cloudy skies meant that the majority of the teams only started riding in the early afternoon. It is hoped that conditions improve tomorrow, when the MotoGP teams take part in the first of three days of testing at the Andalusian track.
