Julián Simón aiming for consistent top five finishes

Julián Simón is a rider with morale at a peak, having closed the preseason with an excellent series of results. The Spaniard last year earned his first Grand Prix win with a victory in Donington Park, and was Spain's most successful representative in 125cc. In 2006 he will start his second season with KTM hoping to improve yet further.

In an interview with Simón paid tribute to the Austrian factory's winter work, and indicated his satisfaction with the changes carried out on 125cc's most competitive prototype of 2005.

"There are important changes on the bike. For example, the chassis is completely different; very similar to that used in 250cc. It is a bit more stable in the apex and it's good for my type of riding, as shown by the fact that I'm putting in faster laps than last year. We've also improved the engine a bit, and aerodynamically I will have a bike more adept for my physique with which to start the first race," said the rider from Toledo. "In January we carried out an aerodynamic test in the Moscow wind tunnel, and we really took a lot away from that. We detected some problems and KTM have worked very hard based on this information," added Simón. "There have also been changes in my leathers, smaller boots fitted and other small improvements to try and make a difference between me and my rivals."

After clocking fast times during preseason, Simón is ambitious and keen to improve on last year's seventh place in the classification.

"I´m really happy, because I've improved my times a lot in different circuits. Here in Jerez they've been lower than in the Grand Prix last year, and that allows me to start the season with confidence."

On the team's goals, the Spaniard has high expectations for 2006, noting that: "KTM's objective, with myself and Mika Kallio, is to win the most races and fight for the title. It is my intention to always be fighting inside the top five, and with this desire we will face the new season. We'll start to see it in the first race."
