Ducati start strong in Jerez

Sete Gibernau and Loris Capirossi lead a Ducati one-two at the head of the leaderboard at midday in Jerez. As of 1pm local time, the Ducati Marlboro riders were the only ones to go faster than 1'41.

Fresh from his BMW M Award win, Colin Edwards completes the top three, with Shinya Nakano, John Hopkins and Carlos Checa all going well. Valentino Rossi is currently in seventh. As is customary, the Italian was the final rider to take to the track, final riding round just after noon. The fastest Honda rider so far has been Makoto Tamada, who was one of the first riders out and in ninth place. Marco Melandri equalled the Japanese's lap of 1´43, with both riders slower than Kawasaki's Randy de Puniet. The session is taking place under comfortable conditions, with sunny skies and temperatures in the region of 20 degrees.
